Every month I do a challenge on Instagram hosted by @clairestelle8. I really love the prompts she comes up with and her fantastic sense of humor keeps it fun while allowing for any sort of wild interpretation I could ever come up with! For the Cities prompt I almost went with an enchanted unicorn city, I will have to get back to that at a later time. If you are inspired before I get around to it, tag me so that I can see! For now I did this mani inspired by my home town of San Diego.

I spent most of my life there and although it's a desert you can always count on the beauty of the palms and the bougainvillea, they were the inspiration for this mani, which I absolutely LOVE! It might look a little familiar as I kind of borrowed the formula from my Water mani, a previous prompt pre-blog days, down to the ILNP jelly pinky! That is Jello Shot by the way, from the new Spring Jellies collection. I am not ashamed because I'm loving the skittlette mani style and as @bravesdivanails would say, I do what I want! I think it's different enough and this time I added stamping over all my nails. For the rest of the manicure I turned to Zoya. They do greens really well, and greens are my favorite. This is Jace and Hunter sponged into a gradient and stamped with Mundo de Uñas Grinch, it's one I have been turning to a lot lately, just working out that way! I guess it's my perfect green when it comes to stamping polishes. On my index finger I used Zoya Spencer, which happens to be my perfect nude shade. I come back to this one time and time again as well. Here it's been stamped with MDU Piñon using an image from ÜberChic Beauty Collection 1. I seriously love all of ÜCs pattern images and their corresponding accents, it's one of the main reasons I was attracted to the plates in the first place and I don't use them enough. I absolutely plan to change that and this was a direct result of that effort. Can't forget the macro!

I have had my home town on the brain a lot lately as I am leaving to go back for a visit in just one short week! I have so many family members and friends to see, the excitement is getting more and more intense. It's also a massive beer city and I can't wait to have myself a few brews at some of the best places to get them! Stone Brewing is not only delicious, its gardens are exceptionally beautiful. I am seriously looking forward to hitting my my favorite farmers market, getting some corn on the cob with Tajin and cotija cheese, and trying all the foods slash buying all the pretties. Other things I can't wait for include: waffle ice cream sandwiches on the sea wall, hiking the bluffs in La Jolla, and MEXICAN FOOD! Yeah... Mexican food.

A Very Sinful Birthday

One of the best parts about being on Instagram is the nail art community. I have only been active in it a few short months now, but I can safely say I have never met a more supportive and welcoming group of people! Among my many new friends is the lovely @natasha_dauncey. I look forward to her comments and posts every day, so when I was invited to do a birthday collaboration for her I jumped right on it! She is always slaying these fashionable geometric designs so I tried to play on that here using a couple of her favorite colors, royal blue and gold.

The base color is Sinful Colors Ciao Bella, and I just have to talk about Sinfuls for sec because I love them, can't help myself, for so many reasons. The first being that I am new to nail art. I started painting my nails back in December of 2015 and got into stamping shortly after. It spiraled quickly out of control and I found myself constantly without shades that I needed to get what was in my head onto my nails! At $1.99 a bottle I was able to pick up a lot of those shades to speed up the rounding out of my collection. Those semi-weekly Walgreens trips became therapy for me, and they still are! I will go on my lunch break to decompress, late at night when I can't sleep, when I have a bad day... do I even need a reason? Just to see if any new pretty colors popped up, or maybe something was restocked that I haven't gotten my colorful paws on yet. Anyhow, I really love them and I think they are fantastic if you don't have much cash to drop on nail polish but you still want to do amazing art. They make up about a third of my polish collection.

Back to the mani, ahem... So those gold flakes are from my other favorite mainstream brand, Zoya. That's Maria Luisa lightly sponged on to provide some visual interest behind my stamping. I used one of my favorite plates, MoYou London Artist 17, and stamped in Mundo de Uñas White. I find myself using those two artist plates, 9 and 17, quite a bit. The images are extremely versatile and give you super gorgeous, uncluttered designs which I have been really into lately. Am I boring you guys with those yet? Hopefully not! I will see you back here tomorrow with another skittlette and tales of my homeland.

Intro to Smooshy Nail Sunday

I am calling it an intro because most of you looking at this already know I am so into Smooshy Nail Sunday that I can't just make a big deal about it once. I have some cool posts planned around my favorite day of the week but since this smoosh happened long before the blog went up, it's going to have to wait! I thought for today it would be fun to post my stamped smoosh in advance, tell you about Smooshy Nail Sunday in case you don't know about it yet, and to share some quick tips on how I get my smooshy nails just the way I like them.

Smooshy Nail Sunday is hosted by @dorisnailsdiary, @nail_it_rong, @renai_madisonails and @nailsbychablis on Instagram. Every week one of the girls chooses the smoosh colors and the community joins in to create the same mani, except every single one looks different! And that is the beauty of the smoosh! Here's mine:

There are many ways to smoosh and none are wrong, but my favorite is the marbled smoosh and I get asked a lot how I get that look. I want to take the time to walk you guys through it, and hopefully that will be next week, maybe I'll even have a tutorial video! Hey, stop laughing! But seriously, for now here are some tips. I use my stamper to smoosh and I don't dab any more than five times ever! If you want your colors to blend, dab away, but if you like your smoosh colors to remain separate and only swirl together here and there... over blending is your enemy! When you put your polish onto your stamper, use nice large "beads" of polish rather than painting it onto the stamper head. You need quite a bit to get full coverage with just a few dabs. I have found that the color I place onto the stamper last shows up the strongest in my smooshes, so you can keep that in mind to get a colorfully balanced smoosh. I always wear undies in the color that I think will help the smoosh pop. For this I used one coat of Sinful Colors Snow me White as the base. Generally I think a lighter base helps keep things bright because dark colors show up nicely over it as well as your lighter shades. If you put down a black base, your neon green might have trouble properly expressing itself. I hope this helps those of you trying to achieve a marbled smoosh! If you try this and you like the results, tag me so I can see! Now, it's traditional on Smooshy Nail Sunday to post your smooshy nails pre and post nail art, so I did some stamping over mine.

I started with a smoosh of Sinful Colors Snow me White, Zoya Raven and INM Nails Bikini. I used ÜberChic Beauty Collection 1 to stamp in Colors By Llarowe Panther. It's a crazy beautiful holo stamping polish from the line they just released. Yes I bought them all, but I was too ashamed to admit it on Instagram. I used my FabUrNails clear stamper to get the placement mostly right, still not good at this. And since Delia (@iamdeliasnails) implied I might be a perfect mani producing robot I let a defect in my stamping live, if you'll note the missing stripe on the middle finger! See you guys soon with more bloggy goodness!

Stop. Stepping. On. My. Hyacinths.

Hey look, I have a blog now! Remember when I made that tutorial video like three months ago and said this was coming soon?! Yeah, sorry about that. I guess I should work on more tutorial videos next but for now, let's talk about this here blog. You guys know I love to go on about nail polish and Instagram was cramping my style. I want to share a bit more with you guys when it comes to the quantity and variety of my content. I will be getting into the products I love a bit more here, as well as sharing extra photos and maybe even a little bit more of my nail tech experience! I promise to keep it interesting for you. I know stuff like this is extremely slow going at first and it's a lot to ask anyone to take the time to read a blog these days, so thanks if you have gotten this far! I have something special to share with you. If you have been following me on Instagram you know my giveaway sponsored by Great Lakes Lacquer is coming to a close tonight and I really wanted to find a way to express my gratitude to Mariah for helping me share the gorgeous with you. Recently I placed a small order for a couple of my favorites from the April limited editions she has up right now. I chose Out Like a Lion and Stop. Stepping. On. My. Hyacinths.

I love the names and both of these flake loaded crellies, but I noticed in the description for S.S.O.M.H. that hyacinths were her favorite flower, so I found the only hyacinth looking image in my stamping plate collection and did this mani for her!

I am wearing it on my nails with a huge smile, because Mariah's sweetness and generosity toward my little account warms my heart.

The floral image is from Bundlemonster BM-715 and the Indie <3 stamp is from ÜberChicBeauty Collection 4. I reverse stamped with Mundo de Uñas White on my Bundlemonster Mini Lotus Mat and colored in with Washed in Holo, a still unreleased Great Lakes polish that is being featured in my giveaway. Little tangent on those mini mats real quick. Holy hell are they useful. I would make decals on my main mat only to smoosh them with my arm while painting or spill my dappen dish full of acetone on them. With the minis I can move them out of the way while they dry and do the dirty work on my main mat. Oh my the frustration these are saving me from...

Hope you guys enjoy my blog. I am overwhelmed by your love and support and as such, I am parkin' it right here with you nail girls. I found my people.
